Increase income ceiling limit of BCs, Minorities: Shabbir Ali

Hyderabad, December 20: Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has urged the Telangana Government to increase the annual income ceiling limit of Backward Classes and Minorities to determine the creamy layer as per the recommendations of National Commission for Backward Classes.

In a media statement, Shabbir Ali said that the Telangana Government has just adapted the previous annual income ceiling limit of Rs. 6 lakh set by the then undivided Andhra Pradesh Government for Backward Classes. He reminded that the National Commission for Backward Classes has already recommended raise in ceiling for OBCs to Rs. 10.5 lakh. He said that the State Government should implement the NCBW recommendations to fix the income ceiling to determine the creamy layer.

Shabbir Ali also demanded revision in the income ceiling for Minorities. He said that the State Government has introduced uniform income ceiling of Rs 1.5 lakh per annum in rural areas and Rs two lakh per annum in urban areas for the implementation of various schemes including bank-linked subsidy for income generated scheme, Shaadi Mubarak, skill development training organised by State Minorities Finance Corporation and Christian Finance Corporation, reimbursement of tuition fees (RTF), maintenance fees (pre/post-matric scholarships) (MTF), coaching for civil services etc., He said that the State Government should revise the ceiling limits and bring them on par with BCs.
