Congress launches signature campaign over Fee Reimbursement dues......

Congress launches signature campaign over Fee Reimbursement dues

·         Huge students’ turnout at Congress meeting at Shamshabad
·         Don't play with the lives of poor students, Uttam tells KCR
·         Congress threatens agitation against TRS anti-students policies

Hyderabad, October 21: In a strong worded statement, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy warned Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao against playing with the lives and careers of poor students in the State.

He was speaking after launching the signature campaign seeking immediate clearance of Fee Reimbursement dues at Shamshabad on Friday. The meeting, organised by National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Youth Congress, was attended by nearly 10,000 students.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said it was strange that the Chief Minister places Telangana among richest states in the country and also introduces a budget of Rs. 1.30 lakh crore for the year 2016-17, but he hesitates to release just Rs. 3,000 Crore towards Fee Reimbursement dues. "He is openly playing with the lives of poor and deserving students. While the poorest of poor parents gave highest education to their children during Congress regime due to universal Fee Reimbursement policy, TRS Government's anti-student policy is forcing lakhs of students to discontinue their studies. This is criminal negligence and highly intolerable," he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Telangana State became a reality only due to the sacrifices and struggle of students. However, he alleged that KCR was suppressing the students and playing with the lives and careers of over 14 lakh students by stopping Fee Reimbursement payments. He reminded that that the Chief Minister had given a clear assurance in the State Legislative Assembly in March this year that all pending dues of Fee Reimbursement would be cleared and the monthly payments would be made from April onwards. "KCR has no value for his own words or any respect towards Assembly. He went back on his promise and did not clear a single rupee towards Fee Reimbursement dues," he said.

He said managements of private intermediate, degree, PG, engineering, pharmacy, management and other colleges have represented to the Congress party that 3,200 private colleges in the State are on the verge of closure due to non-clearance of Fee Reimbursement dues. He also said that about 2.5 lakh lecturers and other staff of these private colleges had not been paid salaries for the last six months. He reminded KCR that the universal Fee Reimbursement scheme introduced by the previous Congress Governments was the only one of its kind in the country.

The TPCC Chief said that NSUI and Youth Congress activists would collect filled in "Application Forms" from students of all educational institutions across Telangana State and the same would be forwarded to the Chief Minister and Governor seeking immediate clearance of Fee Reimbursement dues. Further, he said these applications would be handed over AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, who is visiting Hyderabad on December 2, and he would take up the issue with the President of India.

The meeting was also addressed by AICC Secretary R.C. Khuntia, SC Department Chairman Koppula Raju, former ministers P. Sabitha Indira Reddy and D.K. Aruna, NSUI Telangana president Balmoori Venkat Narsing Rao, Youth Congress president Anil Kumar Yadav and other senior leaders. TPCC Vice-President Dr. Mallu Ravi, Congress legislators Rammohan Reddy, Vamshichand Reddy, A. Sampath Kumar, M. Ranga Reddy, ex-MLAs Sudhir Reddy, Mallareddy Rangareddy, Pratap Reddy, Kuna Srisailam Goud, Ranga Reddy DCC president Mallesh Yadav and other leaders were also present. (eom)

Uttam leads huge farmers protest rally in Mahabubabad

Uttam leads huge farmers protest rally in Mahabubabad

Mahbubabad, October 20: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday said that as part of ongoing struggle for farmers’ rights, the Congress party would organize signature campaigns in villages to pressurize the government to address the issues concerning the farmers.

Speaking at the party’s farmers’ rally ‘Rythu Garjana’ in Manukota in Mahbubabad district, which was attended by over 30,000 people, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS government failed to fulfill even a single promise made during poll campaign. He said that the farmers in the State were going through the worst crisis due to inefficiency of the State Government in tackling various issues like providing farm loans, waiving of farm debts, providing fertilizers and quality seeds. He said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, who claims to be aware of the farmers’ issues, failed miserably in solving their problems. He wondered as to why the state government was diverting the funds meant for farm sector to contractors.

The TPCC chief reiterated the demand that entire crop loans be waived off in single installment without further delay.

Slamming the State Government for not releasing fee reimbursement funds, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that uncertainty looms over the future of the lakhs of students as the government failed to reimburse their fee for various professional courses. He accused KCR of playing with the lives of youth of the state. Similarly, by not clearing the arrears under Aarogyasri scheme, the State Government has proved that it is least bothered about the public health and is an anti-poor government.  If key sectors like farm, education and health are neglected, how the TRS government is going to achieve Bangaru (Golden) Telangana, Uttam Kumar Reddy questioned.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that after visiting every village in Telangana State and exposing the state government’s anti-farmers policies, the party would organize a massive public meeting for which the party would invite AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi. He said that the signatures gathered during the campaign would be forwarded to the President of India highlighting the problems of the farmers in Telangana.

AICC Secretary RC Khuntia, AICC SC Cell Chairman Koppula Raju, CLP leader K Jana Reddy, MP Nandi Yellaiah, TPCC Vice-President Dr. Mallu Ravi, former Union Ministers S. Jaipal Reddy and Balram Naik and other senior leaders also addressed the meeting. (eom)

Shabbir Ali flags off 'Maha Padayatra' for revival of Nizam Sugar Factory

Shabbir Ali flags off 'Maha Padayatra' for revival of Nizam Sugar Factory

Hyderabad, October 20: Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Thursday flagged off the 'Maha Padayatra' demanding revival of Nizam Sugar Factory. The 60-km long 'Maha Padayatra', undertaken by former minister Sudardhan Reddy and other Congress leaders, took off at Kollur village of Kodgir mandal in Nizamabad district today.

Speaking on the occasion, Shabbir Ali condemned the TRS Government for not fulfilling the promise of reviving Nizam Sugar Factory within 100 days after coming to power. He said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao himself had promised that the State Government would take over the Nizam Sugar Factory from the private parties who holds 51% stake. However, the Chief Minister did nothing even after completing about 900 days in power.

Shabbir Ali said in December 2015, the Nizam Deccan Sugars Limited (NDSL) announced lockout of its three units located at Mambojipally in Medak district, Bodhan in Nizamabad district and Metpally in Karimnagar district. The closure had a negative impact on the lives of 10,000 sugarcane farmers. After the closure of NSF units, the farmers were asked to sell their yield to sugar factories of Maharashtra with the promise of payment of transportion charges. He said that the farmers were neither getting payments from Maharashtra factories nor the State Government has paid them promised transport charges to the tune of nearly Rs. 3 Crore. The government also did not clear Rs. 5 Crore towards Purchase Tax at the rate of Rs. 60 per tonne.

The Congress leader said that farmers were habituated to cultivation of sugarcane in about 8,000 hectares in all three districts. However, due to closure of NSF, they were forced to change the pattern. He said that the farmers did not get proper yields due to change in cropping pattern. He demanded that the government pay adequate compensation to all affected sugarcane farmers.

Shabbir Ali said that the closure of historic Nizam Sugar Factory has thrown thousands of families to the streets. He said that the State Government failed to help the employees and workers while all sugarcane farmers were left to their fate. Similarly, he said that the TRS Government has failed to fulfill the promise of revival of Allwyn, Praga Tools, Azamjahi Mills, Kagaznagar Paper Mills and Reyans Factory. He warned that the Congress party would launch mass agitation if the State Government fails to revive Nizam Sugar Factory and other sick industries in the State.

TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, AICC Spokesperson Madhu Yashki Goud, ex-MP Suresh Kumar Shetkar, MLC Akula Lalitha and other senior Congress leaders of Nizamabad district participated in the Maha Padayatra. (eom)
