GHMC plans 2BHK flats for 10,000 poor beneficiaries in city

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is planning to take up the construction of double bed room flats for the weaker sections in the GHMC limits through an innovative scheme, said GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer B. Janardhan Reddy.

This year, 400 double bed rooms in each Circle are being planned and the construction of about 10,000 2BHK flats is being fixed as the GHMC’s target.

The GHMC Commissioner said that the 2BHK flats would be constructed in identified slums by involving various NGOs. He said that the NGOs would create awareness among the slum dwellers and convince them to allow construction in their areas.

Janardhan Reddy said that that the GHMC would take people’s feedback n the status of drinking water, drainage, electricity, parking and other civic related facilities in their areas. The proposal was discussed during a review meeting held by the Commissioner with Urban Community Development, Housing, Engineering, Mepma and other connected departments today in GHMC Head Office.

The GHMC Commissioner said that in the yester years housing schemes like JNNURM and other different schemes were taken up without involving local residents and they did not give desired results. The JNNURM scheme was launched with Rs. 20,000 crores. However, it benefitted only 30% of identified beneficiaries. In the first phase, the GHMC will be take up the construction of double bed rooms flats in 30 basthis for which proposals are being planned.
