Tender delay hits Hyderabad's Raj Bhavan quarters
Though the deadline for tenders floated by the Telangana roads and buildings (R&B) department to construct 180 residential quarters for Raj Bhavan staff ended a fortnight ago, officials have not yet finalized the developer.
After the R&B department had sanctioned Rs 55 crore, the officials had invited tenders through e-Procurement process and set the last date for submission of technical bids on September 17 and financial bids on September 23. Nine bids were received to take up the work for the proposed staff quarters.
"A senior R&B official is behind the delay in finalising tenders," highly placed sources told . As per the procedure, the successful bidder should have been finalised either on the same day (September 23) or after a couple of days. However, the officials have not followed the procedure and till October 10, the tenders were not finalised, the sources added.
A proposal to construct 180 residential quarters, exclusively for staff working at the Raj Bhavan along with a primary school, police barracks and a community hall, was approved by the Telangana government as the existing quarters on the Raj Bhavan premises were in a dilapidated condition. The proposed quarters would house staff working from deputy secretary cadre to class-IV employees.
"After the Telangana government gave the green signal to construct new quarters and sanctioned Rs 55 crore, the R&B department demolished the existing staff quarters and other structures located behind the Raj Bhavan main building last month. After demolition, six-acre land is now available to construct proposed staff quarters, police barracks, school and community hall," an R&B official said. "Once tenders are finalised, the proposed new structures will be completed within three years," the official added.
When contacted regarding the delay in finalisation of tenders, chief engineer, R&B department G Ramakrishna Kumar said, "We are evaluating every tender document thoroughly because the bidders filed nearly 500 pages for technical and financial bids. Tenders will be finalised within 10 days and subsequently works will be taken up."
