Mumbai: Cops thrash, threaten youth
A few Bandra police officers brutally thrashed the two boys after
picking them up from Bandra Reclamation and told them to "leave India and go to Pakistan.
Two innocent
college youths were allegedly beaten up and tortured at a police
station in Bandra and kept at the Bandra Police Station for an entire
night even though no FIR had been filed against them. Relatives and
neighbours of the two youths from Mahim have alleged that a few Bandra
police officers brutally thrashed the two boys after picking them up
from Bandra Reclamation and told them to "leave India and go to
Pakistan." The cops picked up gym trainer Asif Shaikh (19) and Danish
Shaikh (19) from a spot near Bandra Reclamation when they were returning
home from Bhabha Hospital. The cops hit Asif with belts and batons for
three hours and slapped Danish before their parents were called to take
them back home, claimed the victims' kin. While the parents are
unsuccessfully trying to register an FIR against the police, the only
assurance they have got from senior police officials is a promise of an
'inquiry' into the matter. Mumbai police commissioner Ahmad Javed via a
text message said that DCP (zone IX) S Chaudhary was looking into the
matter. "The complainant has met the ACP (Bandra division) Sanjay Kadam,
and Kadam is looking into the matter," said Chaudhary . "Asif (Shaikh)
is undergoing treatment at Bhabha hospital and the matter is under
inquiry. Prima facie it appears Asif and his friend had a fight with
someone and they suffered injuries," said Kadam. Asif has suffered
injuries to his hands, back and legs. On Friday, Asif and Danish Shaikh,
had gone to see their neighbour who has been admitted to Bhabha
hospital for a hernia operation.
