Hyderabad: With just over three months left for the GHMC elections, the
TRS government has announced another series of sops through the
corporation. After announcing developing 1,000 km of roads and
relaxation of property tax, GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar on Wednesday announced 1,40,000 gas connections at 5,000 connections per segment for all 24 Assembly segments falling under the GHMC limits.
The corporation is also contemplating supplying four LED bulbs per house for free. On Wednesday, another two centres of the Rs 5-a-meal scheme were established, at Lakdi-ka-Pul and Saifabad. Mr Kumar said that the Rs 5-a-meal was serving all sections of society. At the Madhapur centre, most of the customers were IT employees and students.
In the coming days, the two-dustbin policy will be launched and 44 lakh households will get the green and red bins free of cost. Also, 2,500 auto trolleys will collect garbage from each house in the city under the Swachh Hyderabad programme.
Delimitation of wards
The GHMC has sought suggestions and objections to the delimitation of 150 election wards. The details of draft notification has been put on the GHMC website www.ghmc.gov.in as well as at the corporation’s circle and zonal offices.
The delimitation was done on the basis of Census 2011 population which is about 67,31,790. The delimitation proposes to fix ward boundaries with an average population of about 44,880 per ward, with a 10 per cent variation.
Steps have been taken to ensure that a polling station area would not be distributed between two wards and a ward jurisdiction will not fall between two Assembly constituencies.
4 reservoirs dry up
Commercial taxes minister T. Srinivas Yadav said that electric high tension wires would be taken underground. Two big reservoirs will be constructed to store drinking water once the Krishna Phase 3 and Godavari projects are commissioned.
Regarding drinking water, Mr Yadav said that the Osmansagar, Himayatsagar, Manjira and Singur reservoirs would dry up in the next few days.
He said the pending part of the Phase-3 of the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project at Prashannagar in Jubilee Hills was being completed quickly. This would supply 45 million gallons of water a day. All precautions are being taken by the government to deal with the water crisis and the people should not panic, he said.
Works on the Godavari Drinking Water Project to tap 10 TMC of water (172 MGD) from Yellampally to Hyderabad was going at brisk space and the project would be completed shortly, Trial runs have started, minister said. He said the government was constructing 400 2BHK houses in each constituency as part of the Swachh Hyderabad programme.
