PRESS NOTE
Hyderabad October 2, 2015
The Telangana State Special Protection Force and bird buffs, of the Hyderabad Birding Pals and Friends of Flora and Fauna , are building an enduring connect with the residents of Ameenpur where they are already engaged in protecting and regenerating a 13 lake ecosystem. “ This is the first of our health initiatives in Ameenpur after removing the immersed Ganesh idols in the past fort night. We will have more health teams visiting Ameenpur in order to improve the quality of life of its residents,” said the TSSPF Director General Mrs. Tejdeep Kaur Menon.
School children and senior citizens of the village were examined by two teams of doctors for their eye care and dental health with the help of Round Table No 148 at the Zilla Parishad school in Ameenpur village on Friday – October 2. Though the quarterly exams begin on Saturday the children turned up in large numbers for the extraordinary health check done under the supervision of the orthodontist Dr P. Sujit Reddy.
“We are surprised to find from a dental examination that two of every five children checked are consuming water with a high content of fluoride. What we known is that flourosis is endemic to the Nalgonda district of Telangana. Here is it possibly because of the higher levels of fluoride in groundwater,” explains Dr. Sujit Reddy.
Of the 285 school children who were examined as many as 68 are to go for tooth extraction and other dental care free of cost at Dr. Reddy’s clinic as resolved by the Round Table No148. Ophthalmologists of the Dr.P. Siva Reddy Eye Hospital, Hyderabad who tested the eyes of the children for any sight problems discovered that 60 students have problems with their sight and eight senior citizens have cataracts. While the Hospital is to arrange for the removal of cataract free of cost at its facility, the TSSPF is to tie up with donors to gift spectacles to both the school goers as well as the elderly.
The TSSPF is requesting the Telangana State Pollution Control Board to test samples of water from the wells and other groundwater sources in the area for fluoride content and recommend abatement measures.
