Mobile internet services suspended in Jammu over reports of cow slaughter
Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said that the cows appear to have consumed some poisonous substance. However, everything will become clear after the postmortem.
As people started circulating photographs of the carcass of cows on WhatsApp, the State
government asked the cellular operators to suspend internet services on mobile phones.
Internet services were suspended in Jammu region as tension broke out in Udhampur
district over reports of cow slaughter at four places on Thursday afternoon. Sources said that
people on Chenani-Nashri town woke up in the morning to see carcass of three cows at
three places, with their throat apparently slit. This led to protests in the town, with protestors
blocking the national highway in the afternoon. As the priests were continuing, there came
reports about the carcass of a cow found in the water tank inside a Shiv temple at Garhi.

said that it was a dog’s carcass found inside the water tank at Garhi. The carcass of cows
too have been sent for postmortem. Sources said that there has been an old dispute over a
piece of land between local Muslims and management of the Shiv temple. Earlier also,
some pieces of flesh were found scattered there, they added. Udhampur Deputy
