Duronto derails, two Telangana women killed
Two persons were killed when eight coaches of the Duronto Express derailed after passing Martur Railway Station in Kalaburagi district on Saturday.
There were more than 600 passengers in the train, travelling from Secunderabad to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai. The train hurtling at around 110 km per hour derailed at 2.42 a.m. and 17 passengers in coach HA 1 and 24 persons in the pantry car escaped with minor injuries.
There were around 53 passengers in B8 and it included a 22-member group of employees of Secunderabad-based Rajdeep Associates. The dead were identified as Jyothi Shankar (46) and Pushpalatha Harish (26) hailing from Telangana, and one of the injured, Lakshmi (50), were employees of Rajdeep Associates and were going for a three-day vacation at Lonawala hill station in Maharashtra. Among the injured included 21-year-old Indian Navy personnel Abdul Ashraf Gaffar who lost one of his legs in the accident.
