Prosecution seeks death for 8 in 2006 serial blasts case

Mumbai, Sept.23 : The prosecution on Wednesday

 demanded capital punishment for eight of the 12 persons

 convicted for their roles in the 2006 Mumbai serial train

 blasts.
It also demanded life imprisonment for the remaining four.
However, the special MCOCA court, which was hearing the
 case, decided to reserve its order on sentencing till 
September 30.
Earlier, Public Prosecutor Raja Thakare dubbed all 12 as
 "merchants of death".
The serial blasts on suburban local trains on July 11, 2006,
 killed at least 188 people and left over 800 injured.
The convicts for whom death was sought are Kamal Ahamed
 Ansari, Dr Tanvir Ahmed Ansari, Mohammed Faisal Shaikh,
 Ehtesham Siddiqui, Shaikh Alam Shaikh, Mohammed Sajid
 Ansari, Naved Hussain Khan and Asif Khan.
Life imprisonment was sought for Mohamid Majid Shafi,
 Muzzammil Shaikh, Soheil Shaikh and Zamir Ahmed Shaikh.
