BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya passes away

New Delhi: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya passed away on Sunday. He was 75 years old. He is survived by his wife, son Abhishek and a daughter.

Dalmiya was in city's BM Birla Hospital since Thursday night after he complained of chest pain and breathing troubles. The Indian cricket board chief remained at the Intensive Care Unit and a five-member medical board was set up for his treatment.

An Angioplasty was performed on him and his condition remained stable for close to three days before he was declared dead on Sunday night.

Dalmiya began his second term as BCCI president last March. But he was ailing since then, and his health deteriorated further over the last few weeks.

Dalmiya had served the BCCI for 36 years. He became treasurer of the organisation in 1983 and was instrumental in helping India host the 1987 and 1996 World Cups. He also served as ICC President in 1997.

"BCCI condoles the sudden demise of our president Shri Jagmohan Dalmiya," BCCI twitter handle said after the demise.

“Sad. Dalmiya ji passes away. He was a giant amongst sports administrators, a true lover of Bengal. On my way to pay my respect. RIP,” said West Bengal CM Mamata Benerjee.
