Auto union holds protest over allotment of new autos
Hyderabad, September 23: The Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee on Wednesday staged a protest at the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) at Khairtabad demanding that the authorities cancel all pending applications and allot 1788 new autos only to the new applicants.
Led by JAC Convener Mohd Amanullah Khan, the auto-drivers held dharna demanding that the RTA authorities accept the demand of all auto unions to cancel all pending applications and allot remaining 1788 new autos only to genuine auto drivers who are fresh applicants. Amanullah Khan alleged that a few auto dealers and financiers have purchased Driving Licenses from auto drivers and applied for autos on their behalf. Their intention is to sell the autos in black market at higher rates. He also alleged that some officials of RTA were hand-in-glove with the auto dealers and financiers.
Amanullah Khan alleged that the RTA was not following the directions given in G O No.14 that the remaining autos should be allotted to the open category.
The protest led to a massive traffic jam on busy Khairtabad - Panjagutta Road for about two hours. The JAC leaders later sumitted a representation to the Transport Commissioner.
