Mumbai: Gold worth Rs 30 lakh recovered from passenger flying from Riyadh to Mangalore

Six gold bars were concealed in a small bag that the passenger was  carrying while another four were strapped into the battery of an LED emergency light which he was carrying.

A passenger named Mohammad Althaf Moidin was intercepted by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at the Mumbai airport after he arrived from Riyadh by a Jet Airways flight.
Moidin was subjected to further checks at the airport during which 10 gold bars weighing over 1100 grams were recovered from his luggage.

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED:
  • A passenger named Mohammad Althaf Moidin, holding an Indian passport, arrives at Mumbai airport from Riyadh on Jet Airways flight.
  • Moments before he was to catch a flight to Mangalore, Moidin is taken away for questioning by Air Intelligence Unit. On suspicion, his luggage is subjected to further checks.
  • Ten gold bars weighing 1160 grams worth Rs Rs 29,68,585 recovered from his possession.
  • Six gold bars were concealed in a small bag while another four were strapped into the battery of an LED emergency light which he was carrying.
  • The emergency light was kept in his checked-in bag. All gold bars were neatly wrapped with black colour adhesive tape.
  • Moidin was arrested and a case has been registered against him. Further investigation is on.
