Telangana Auto Drivers JAC has appealed to the auto drivers in Greater Hyderabad to observe one-day token strike on August 18
in protest against the Transport Department’s conspiracy to drive away
majority of the existing autos from the city and demanded that the Dept.
fulfill its commitment to solve transfer of auto ownership problem.
Announcing this, Mohd Amanullah Khan, Convenor, in a statement alleged
that the Transport Department is guilty of “breach of trust” in so far
as its commitment made to automen to solve transfer of ownership from
old registered owners to the existing new owners is concerned. He
clarified that about 60% of the autos in the city are not transferred in
the name of the existing new owners and therefore to regulate these
autos the Transport Department in co-ordination with Traffic Police had
held several meetings with Auto Drivers Unions and private financiers
and decided to effect transfer of ownership to the names of the existing
new auto owners from first week of July.
But, despite announcement of the program, the Transport department was
playing hide-and-seek with poor auto workers as pre-planned to drive
away majority of autos from the city and thereby render thousands of
auto drivers jobless. In view of the situation, they are left with no
other alternative than to launch “a do-or-die” agitation. Before far the
autos are not transferred to the existing new other names, Aadhar card
cannot be produced, he added.(Agencies)
