Though Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary is yet to take a decision
on the resignation of commercial taxes minister T. Srinivas Yadav as
Telugu Desam MLA for the Sanathnagar Assembly seat following his
defection to the TRS, a virtual unannounced election campaign is on in
the constituency.
Taking on Mr Srinivas Yadav is Congress former MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy besides Telugu Desam and BJP leaders who are trying to strengthen their base in the constituency. Mr Srinivas Yadav’s hectic schedule in the constituency, inaugurating or inspecting development works, is giving indication that a bypoll in the constituency is not that far away. For the past month, Mr Yadav has been and attending each and every programme organised either by himself and on the request of his supporters.
On Varalaxmi Vratham on Friday, the minister participated in five programmes including the development of the Gangubai Basti park, a footpath on Afzal Road and drain works at SR Nagar. While his confidants assert there would be no bypoll before the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, the constituency is buzzing with political activity by all parties.
The Speaker has to take the decision on Mr Srinivas Yadav’s resignation as TD MLA. No decision has been taken so far, a legislative official said. Mr Srinivas Yadav has been maintaining that the issue was now before the Speaker and he has nothing to do with it. “I am ready for the byelection whenever it is held,” he said.
Mr Shashidhar Reddy, who is eyeing the seat, intensified his campaign against Mr Srinivas Yadav. On Friday, he wrote to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao seeking the dismissal of Mr Srinivas Yadav from the ministry for encouraging grabbing of Wakf land in Czech Colony in Sanathnagar.
