Drug Control Administration, Telangana – Annual Round Up

Achievements
  1. Streamlining of licensing work using time lines and flow charts –
  1. This led to reduction in licensing time by 150-180%.
  1. Use of technology to expedite work; reduce arbitrariness & corruption; save human resource
  1. Computerization of Drugs Control Administration.
  2. Launching of website listing out procedures
  3. Online Licensing system for Pharmacies / Medicine/drug Stores
  4. 'E Labs' software to ensure integrity of medicine samples for testing.
  5. CCTV camera coverage of Drugs Control Administration.
  1. Reorganisation of Manufacturing Wing of Drugs Control Administration from Area approach to Task Specific Verticals , as is followed in all developed countries of the world. This is the first time in India that this approach has been introduced.
  2. Training of 57 Drug Inspectors in tie-up with USFDA, CIPS & CDSCO.
  3. University Tie-up with OU and JNTU – Hands on experience for M.Pharma Students. A total of 83 M. Pharma students from OU & JNTU have been  trained by the DCA Lab in handling high end equipment.  
  4. Shift from e-Monitoring to m-Monitoring: A DCA Android App has been developed which is being used by the department for Inspection of Pharmacies / Medicine/drug Stores
  5. Sh. Amrutha Rao, Deputy Director was awarded "Best Drug Control Officer of the country" for the year 2015.

The state governments of MP, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra and West Bengal have shown interest in following some of these modernization schemes.
Teams from MP & Chattisgarh visited Hyderabad to study the functioning.
Officers of DCA, Telangana also made presentations to the Health & IT officials of Maharashtra and West Bengal regarding these.

  1. Regulation of Manufacture of medicines/drugs
  1. 55 Manufacturing units were booked for poor manufacturing practices.
  2. 83 licenses were issued to different Manufacturing units.
  1. Regulation of Sale of medicines/drugs
  1. 259 Awareness meetings were conducted with Medicine/druggists/pharmacists.
  2. 1030 licenses of pharmacies were suspended for incorrect practices.
  3. Action taken against 131 establishments (Hospitals, Pharmacies etc) for poor storage and hygiene factors w.r.t. medicine/medicines/drugs.
  1. Ensure availability of Standard Quality medicines/drugs and at standard prices
  1. 4715 Medicine samples were tested. 59 cases of Not Standard Quality detected and legal action initiated.
  2. 64 cases of violation of Medicine/drug Price Control Order were detected and necessary measures are under process.
  1. Regulate functioning of blood banks
  1. Surprise checks carried out at all blood banks in Telangana.
  2. 109 out of 139 blood banks were issued notices for various violations of law.
  1. Implementation of Drugs & Magic Remedies Act
  1. 147 cases registered for the period under review and action is underway.
