App-based aggregators compromising on drivers'

App-based aggregators compromising on drivers' security: TSCBOA

Hyderabad, October 10: The Telangana Cabs and Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA) and Telangana Cabs Drivers & Owners Association (TCDOA) have strongly condemned the attack on cab driver Bhashya Ramavath by some unidentified passengers and accused the Aap-based aggregators Ola and Uber of comprising with the drivers' security.

Three persons robbed Bhashya of his cash, mobile phones and drove away with his Maruti Swift Desire car at Suraram on October 8. They later abandoned the vehicle in damaged condition at Outer Ring Road in Bongulur.

TSCBOA president Syed Nizamuddin said Bhashya got a booking through Ola Cabs at 1.30 AM for a Vanasthalipuram-Bachupally trip and met with this incident. He said that the Ola authorities did not come to the rescue of Bhashya after the incident. "App-based aggregators are accepting bookings from unknown customers at odd timings without even considering the risk involved to drivers' lives and properties. Further, they are simply disowning the drivers whenever they are attacked," he said.

Syed Nizamuddin said that the Ola authorities did not respond when Bhashya informed them about the incident. They contended that their role was confined to giving bookings. "They cannot act in such an irresponsible manner. They just want to earn profits on each booking, but they don't want to share the risk and damage being faced by the driver. Bhashya is a poor ST who somehow managed to get a cab to earn his livelihood. Now he lost his lone source of livelihood. Ola authorities must display some compassion towards their drivers who they call their "partners"," he said.

The TSCBOA president reminded that one Uber driver D. Srinivas was attacked by a passenger on August 25 in Kachiguda Police limits. In that case, Uber authorities refused to accept any responsibility. He said that the State Government should regulate App-based aggregators in the interest of drivers and also the society.

Meanwhile, Telangana Cabs Drivers & Owners Association president B. Venkatesh Goud demanded that the Cyberabad Police take stern action against the culprits who attacked driver Bhashya. He warned of mass agitation by the drivers if action is delayed. (eom)

Pampore: Militants holed up inside EDI building, encounter underway

Police sources say that two to three militants could be present inside the multi-storey concrete building.

pampore, edi building, pampore attack, pampore terror attack, kashmir attack, kashmir terror attack, pampore terrorist attack, EDI building terror attackThe EDI hostel building is five-storey and is built in concrete.

The anti-fidayeen squad of J&K Police, and troops from Army paramilitary forces have cordoned off a government building in Pampore where at least three suspected militants are holed up since morning. The building is the hostel of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) which was destroyed in a fidayeen attack in February this year.

Police sources say that on Monday morning, fire erupted on the top floor of the EDI building at Pampore. And as fire servicemen rushed to Pampore to douse the flames, militants positioned inside fired shots announcing their presence inside the building.
Soon after the militant fire, heavy contingent of police, army and paramilitary forced were rushed to Pampore and the entire area was cordoned off.
Police sources say that two to three militants could be present inside the multi-storey concrete building. They say that militants might have deliberately set the building on fire hoping that police will arrive. “It could have been a plan. They could have thought that police will arrive once they see fire and they (militants) would easily target them,” said a police source. “But when the fire servicemen arrived, they fired to show their presence inside”.
Police sources say that an army injured at Pampore sustained injuries when his own weapon on his foot and not in militant fire.
The EDI hostel building is five-storey and is built in concrete. In February this year, militants stormed the main building of the Institute after attacking a police and CRPF party. The encounter between militants and the army lasted for three days even as army used heavy artillery.
During the past week, police and paramilitary forces were on high alert in Srinagar after inputs of a militant attack. Police sources say they had inputs that militants were planning to attack a high value target in Srinagar like the Badamibagh cantonment. The cantonment is less than five kilometers away from the EDI complex.

AIMIM president Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi has said.............

Open for poll alliance in Uttar Pradesh: AIMIM president Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi has said
his party is open for an alliance to fight elections in Uttar Pradesh, where he claimed
the Samajwadi Party is facing public anger over "failure" to fulfil poll promises.
Our state (UP) president Shaukat Ali is in touch with some organisations, some leaders and some parties.
It would be too early to really comment on it. Definitely we are open for alliance but not with parties
like Samajwadi, Congress or BJP," Owaisi told PTI when asked if there is a possibility of his party tying
up with smaller parties for the poll, due early next year.
"I am not involved in those matters. Our state president is there. We will have to wait for some time,"
the Lok Sabha member from Hyderabad said. Owaisi, who addressed two public meetings in Uttar Pradesh
recently, said his party is getting "very good response" from people which was "very heartening" and
gave his party a "lot of confidence".
