Meat Sellers in UP to Go on Indefinite Strike From Monday


Meat sellers across Uttar Pradesh would go on an indefinite strike from Monday against the crackdown on illegal and mechanised slaughterhouses.


Fish vendors were also claimed to have resolved to join the stir which has seen non-vegetarian delicacies go off the menu in several parts of the state.
We have decided to intensify our strike from tomorrow.All shops will remain closed. Fish sellers too have joined us and are extending support to us.

He said, in the wake of the crackdown, there was no question of the strike being called off anytime soon.
"It will go on indefinitely," he said.

In Allahabad, graves in the Rajapur cemetery were found vandalised, upsetting the Christian community of the city.
Community members have alleged that delinquents often trespassed the cemetery to drink, gamble and indulge in immoral activities

 People have shared photos and videos of the desecrated graves on social media and the Allahabad Heritage Society has appealed to people to come forward to help restore the graves.

 As can be seen, crosses have been broken, and epitaphs of nearly a dozen graves have been smashed.

No one has been directly linked to this act of vandalism so far.
Abhinav Joy Zaidi was the first person to spot the broken graves when he went with his wife to the cemetery to visit his grandmother’s grave.
He spotted a group of hoodlums there taking drugs, who also passed inappropriate remarks as he passed by.
The cemetery’s caretaker, Sanjay Alfred, said that some miscreants were spotted by the security guard on the day before Holi. Senior authorities of the graveyard have also been informed of the incident and a formal complaint will be registered after consulting with them.

12 injured, reinforcements rushed in to Patan.

One person was killed and at least 12 were injured in a clash between two communities at Vadavali village in Gujarat’s Patan district following a scuffle between two students of Class 10 after their Board exams. Sources said the two students were climbing down the stairs in their school after their exams when one of them fell. This led to an argument that turned physical and other students joined in.
According to Additional DGP Tirth Raj, the students alerted villagers and soon, a mob of around 5,000 people attacked the Muslim residents of Vadavali village, ransacked dozens of homes and torched around 20 houses, vehicles and other properties. A 25-year-old, Ibrahim Belim, was killed in the violence and at least five of the injured are said to be critical. Police said they fired more than seven rounds and lobbed dozens of tear gas shells to disperse the mob.

Director General of Police PP Pandey said though the violence has subsided, three companies of the State Reserve Police will stay deployed in the village to maintain peace.
Vadavali, which has a sizeable Muslim population, is a ‘Samras’ village, a government scheme under which villagers choose their ward members and sarpanch through consensus instead of holding elections. Vadavali has a Muslim sarpanch.
Superintendent of Police of Patan district, Ashwin Chauhan, said, “We are combing the villages to ensure normalcy and are also trying to identify the accused.”
